Women's Lacrosse Tops Virginia Wesleyan 21-10
SALEM - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team picked up a victory over Virginia Wesleyan, 21-10 during Alumni Weekend on Saturday. The Maroons now have a record of 8-6; 7-1 ODAC, while the Marlins sit with a mark of 4-10; 3-5 ODAC.

The Marlins took an early jump on the Maroons, scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the first half. Roanoke got its first goal of the game at 24:05, as Kathleen Wager tallied an unassisted goal to bring the Maroons within one, 2-1. Wesleyan put another on the board, before Allison Bonanno scored two consecutive goals to tie the game up at 3-3. The Marlins scored one more time before the Maroons went on a 5-1 run to close the half, as Jamie Golden and Rosie Knisley scored two each, with another added by Morgan Conroy. At the end of the first half, Roanoke led 8-5.

The Maroons opened the second half with four consecutive goals, as Darragh Evarts, Knisley, Conroy, and Bonanno all found the back of the net to take a 12-5 lead. After the Marlins scored again, the Maroons rattled off six more goals, with two by Evarts and Wager, while Golden and Knisley had one each. With 15:55 to play, Ronaoke held a 18-6 advantage. The Marlins closed the final 12 minutes of the game, outscoring Roanoke 4-3, with the Maroons goals coming from Wager, Broghan McEnerney and Tyler Redmond. Roanoke defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 21-10 in ODAC action.

Rosie Knisley and Kathleen Wager scored a team-high four goals, followed by Darragh Evarts and Allison Bonanno who tallied three each. Bonanno led all players in the contest with five assists, Knisley finished with four. Lauren Curtin played 42:23 in goal, tallying six saves to pick up the win.

The Marlins were led in scoring by Carla Williams, followed by Nikki Salyers and Summer Moore with two goals apiece. Salyers also had the team's only assist in the game. Madison Carroll played all 60 minutes in goal, taking the loss and tallying 12 saves.

Roanoke led in most statistical categories including draw controls (23-10), shots (47-20), and ground balls (22-15). The teams tied in clears, while Virginia Wesleyan had 15-turnovers to Roanoke's 14.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 17th as they take on Guilford College in ODAC action. That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
