Evarts Sets Single Game Record in Women's Lacrosse Loss to #15 St. John Fisher
PUERTO RICO – Roanoke's women's lacrosse team went up against #15 ranked St. John Fisher College on Tuesday afternoon, falling 20-15 in the first game of the spring break trip.  The Maroons now have a record of 1-2 on the season, while the Cardinals are 2-0.

This is the third consecutive match that the Maroons have played against ranked opponents to start the season.  The Maroons fell in the season opener to #1 Salisbury University, then bounced back to defeat #16 Christopher Newport in double overtime.

Despite the loss the Maroons moved up numerous school records lists with performances from the game.  Darragh Evarts set a school record in draw controls for a game, pulling down 16 during the contest.  Evarts had previously notched 12 draw controls in two games during the 2013 season.  Evarts ranks second all-time in draw controls at Roanoke College with 190, just 10 away from breaking the record held by Gina Valles '11.  She is also eighth all-time in goals scored with 135, just five away from passing Kathleen Wager '13.

Allison Bonanno now ranks third on the ODAC all-time assists list with 152, just 12 shy of moving into second, held by Angela Bisland of Randolph-Macon (1999-02).  Virginia Wesleyan's Meagan Dicave (1999-02) holds the conference record with 176 career assists.  Bonanno also just passed Robin Collinson '91 in all-time points at Roanoke with 277.  Bonanno needs just 22 more points to take second away from Ali Ogelsby '98.

St. John Fisher scored two goals in the first two minutes, both off of free position shots.  Roanoke answered as Julia Galanto scored the Maroons first goal of the game at 27:33 in the first half.  Claire Feeney knotted the game up at 2-2 just a minute later off of a free position shot.  In a player-up situation, Allison Bonanno scored Roanoke's third consecutive goal at 24:31, taking a 3-2 advantage. The Cardinals and Maroons traded a goal each through the 22:34 mark.  At the 20 minute mark, St. John Fisher rattled off three straight goals over the next six minutes to reclaim the 6-4 advantage.  The Maroons responded equally with three goals of their own, with two from Bonanno and one from Darragh Evarts.  With 9:06 to play in the half, Roanoke led 7-6.  The Cardinals closed the half with four unanswered goals, with Samantha Barton netting two.  At the half, St. John Fisher led Roanoke 10-7.

The Cardinals picked up where they left off in the first half, scoring three straight goals to open the period.  Roanoke trailed by six, 13-7 with 23:11 to play in the half.  Darragh Evarts scored the next two goals for the Maroons, both assisted by Allison Bonanno, pulling Roanoke within four, 13-9.  The teams traded goals, with Evarts netting one more, assisted by Bonanno, before the Cardinals scored another three straight goals.  Evarts scored her fourth goal of the half at 14:12 off of a free position shot, as the Maroons now trailed by six, 17-11.  After another Cardinal goal, Evarts scored her fifth of the half, assisted for a fourth time by Bonanno.  Carley Sturges and Meghan Gerrie scored a goal each for the Maroons in the final minutes, while Morgan Conroy scored the final goal of the game with 1:09 to play.  However, the Maroons trailed the Cardinals 20-15 at the final buzzer as Roanoke fell to #15 St. John Fisher on Tuesday.
