Women's Lacrosse Tops Eagles 21-10 In ODAC Action
BRIDGEWATER – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent, Bridgewater College on Saturday, 21-10.  The Maroons now have a record of 4-4, 2-0 ODAC, while the Eagles have a record of 4-5, 1-1 in ODAC play.
 
Darragh Evarts and Allison Bonanno combined for 11 of Roanoke's 21 goals on the afternoon.  Evarts tallied all six of her goals in the first half alone.  Bonano and Evarts each finished with a team high three assists apiece.  Sophomore Claire Feeney tallied four goals and one assist on the afternoon, as well as having a team high eight draw controls.  Lauren Curtin picked up the win with seven saves, having played 48 minutes in net.
 
Evarts scored the first two goals of the game, all within three minutes of the opening whistle.  Those goals were assisted by Bonanno and Briana Storey.  Feeney tallied the third goal of the game at 24:48 in a player-up situation.  For every three goals that Roanoke would score in the first half, Bridgewater would answer with one.  Caroline Fletcher scored the Eagles' first goal of the game at 23:33.  Over the next five minutes, Allison Bonanno scored her first goal off of a free position shot, while Evarts scored two more goals of her own.  With 18:59 to play, Roanoke led 6-1.  Fletcher scored her second goal of the game just a minute later to pull the Eagles back within two.
 
Morgan Conroy scored Roanoke's seventh goal at 14:01, assisted by Bonanno.  Bonanno scored a goal of her own two minutes later, while Julia Galanto scored on a player-up situation, assisted by Evarts.  The Maroons would score three more goals in the half, with Evarts tallying two of those goals, both off free position shots.  Bonanno scored the third goal at 7:20 off of a free position shot as well.  Bridgewater's Meredith Wimbrow scored in the final seconds of the half as Roanoke entered the end of the period with a 12-4 advantage.
 
Bridgewater opened the second half with two goals, as Jenna Devilbiss and Jesse Colligan scored in the opening six minutes of the game.  Storey scored Roanoke's first goal of the half at 22:23, putting the Maroons ahead by seven, 13-6.  Bridgewater answered with another two goals, both coming from Caroline Fletcher.  Starting at 19:40, Roanoke scored three straight goals over the next two minutes.  Bonanno started with a free position shot, while Feeney scored a minute later off of a pass from Evarts. Roanoke's third goal in the run came from Bonanno, who slipped one past the keeper on an assist from Broghan McEnerney.  At 17:56, Bridgewater scored its ninth goal, notched by Brittany Lanahan. 
 
The Maroons went on a five goal run at this point, started by Claire Feeney who scored the first two goals.  The next three goals came from Courtney McCartin, McEnerney and Galanto.  With just three minutes to play, Roanoke held a 21-9 advantage.  The Eagles' Devilbiss scored the final goal of the game with 29 seconds to play, as Roanoke picked up the victory 21-10.
 
Bridgewater was led by Caroline Fletcher, who scored four goals on the afternoon.  She was followed by Jenna Devilbiss, who finished with two goals.  Peggy Russell led the team on the afternoon with six ground balls, while Jesse Colligan won six draw controls.
 
The Maroons outshot Bridgewater 42-27, while also leading in draw controls, 19-14.  Bridgewater led the tally in ground balls (17-15), as well as saves (13-9).
 
The Maroons return to action on Monday, March 24th as they host Kalamazoo College at Kerr Stadium.  That game is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
