Women's Lacrosse Rolls Over Kalamazoo 20-2 on Monday
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team defeated Kalamazoo College 20-2 on Monday evening in non-conference action.   The Maroons now have a record of 5-4, while the Hornets have a record of 2-2.

Roanoke's win over Kalamazoo is the second consecutive game that the Maroons have scored 20 goals or more.  The Maroons defeated Bridgewater College 21-10 on Saturday giving Roanoke a 2-0 record in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Maroons came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, as the team scored nine unanswered goals all within the first 10 minutes of the contest.  Darragh Evarts scored the first goal at the 29:16 mark off of an assist by Allison Bonanno.  Claire Feeney went on to score the next three goals for the Maroons, with the first being assisted by Bonanno, the other two from Evarts.  At the 24 minute mark, Evarts scored her second goal of the game, while Courtney McCartin picked up her first just 30 seconds later.  Evarts answered again less than a minute later with her third goal of the night, this time off of a free position shot.  Morgan Conroy and McCartin scored the next two goals as Roanoke took a 9-0 lead with 20:48 to play.

Kalamazoo scored its first goal of the night at 18:46 as Anika Sproull slipped one past the keeper, cutting the Hornets' deficit to eight, 9-1.  The Maroons kept finding the net after that, scoring the next seven goals in the half.  Bonanno started the scoring on an unassisted goal, followed by Evarts who scored on another free position shot.  Bonanno scored once more at 11:24, putting the Maroons ahead by 11, 12-1.  In the final eight minutes, Roanoke saw goals by Conroy, Feeney and Meghan Gerrie, with Evarts assisting on two of those goals.  At the half, Roanoke led 15-1.

In the second half, the Maroons picked up where they left off as Evarts scored on an assist from Feeney, netting the team's 16th goal of the night and the fifth by Evarts.  Briana Storey scored her goal at 23:36, assisted by Evarts.  At 20:32, Carley Sturges found the back of the net in an unassisted goal.  The Maroons' final two goals of the night were scored by Caroline Byrnes, the first on a free position shot, while the other was assisted by Sturges.  Kalamazoo's Nicole Huff struck for the Hornets at 4:34 in the second half, but that would prove to be the final goal of the night as Roanoke defeated Kalamazoo, 20-2 on Monday.

Darragh Evarts led the Maroons, scoring five goals on the evening.  She also dished out five assists for a total of 10 points on the night.  Evarts found herself also leading in ground balls with a team-high six.  Claire Feeney finished the night with four goals and three assists for seven points, going along with three ground balls.  Allison Bonanno, Courtney McCartin, Morgan Conroy and Caroline Byrnes all tallied two goals apiece.  Bonanno finished with three assists, three ground balls and a team high five draw controls.  Lauren Curtin and Allison Shannon split time in goal on the night, with Shannon picking up three saves, and Curtin earning the win.

Kalamazoo finished with two goals on the night, one scored by Nicole Huff, the other coming from Anika Sproull.  The Hornets finished with eight shots, five of which were on goal.  Sproull led the team in ground balls with give, while Nicole Prentice tallied a team high three draw controls.  Gina Scala and Ivy McKee split time in goal, as Scala tallied five saves on the night.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, March 26th as they travel to Lexington to take on #11 ranked Washington and Lee University.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:30 PM start.
