Maroons Narrowly Fall to #11 Washington and Lee
GREENSBORO, NC – The Roanoke women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead against #11 ranked Washington and Lee University on Wednesday, but the Generals rallied late in the first to pick up the 11-9 win in ODAC action.  The Maroons now have a record of 5-5, 2-1 ODAC, while the Generals are now 8-2, 4-0 in the ODAC.

Allison Bonanno's two goals on the evening puts her with 298 career points, she is two points shy of moving into second all-time in scoring at Roanoke College.  With two more points, she will move into ninth on the ODAC career-scoring list.  Her two goals also puts her two away from being eighth all-time in goals scored at  Roanoke College.  Darragh Evarts' two goals today puts her just five points away from her 200th point, which would make her just one of eight players to ever reach this milestone at Roanoke.  Evarts, now with 227 draw controls, holds the Roanoke College record in the category, only in just her third season as a Maroon.

Roanoke's Darragh Evarts scored the first two goals of the game, both assisted by Claire Feeney, giving the Maroons a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game.  After Washington & Lee scored a minute later, Roanoke was back on the attack netting another two goals.  The first was an unassisted cap by Feeney, followed by a goal from Allison Bonanno, who scored from a Feeney assist.  Less than seven mintues into the game, Feeney already had four points.  Washington and Lee's Margaret Klein scored at the 22:18 mark to make it a two goal game, 4-2.  Roanoke responded with another pair of goals.  Courtney McCartin netted a goal from a free position shot at 19:14, while Feeney scored, unassisted, five minutes later at 14:45. Feeney's goal was the last score from the Maroons in the first half, while the Generals went on a 6-0 run to end the first half, a run that spanned 13 minutes with four different players scoring.  At halftime, Roanoke trailed the Generals, 8-6.

Bonanno started the second half, scoring a goal within the first minute to get the Maroons within one, 8-7.  However, Washington and Lee scored three goals, one each from Margaret Klein, Gretta Witter and Carly Taglienti, as the Generals extended their lead to four, 11-7.  With 5:42 to play in the half, Claire Feeney netted a free position goal cutting the deficit to three.  Roanoke would score once more as it was Feeney again with an unassisted goal at 2:56.  However, the Maroons could not close the gap falling to #11 ranked Washington and Lee, 11-9.

The Maroons were led in scoring by Claire Feeney, who finished with four goals and three assists for a total of seven points.  She also led the team in draw controls with four.  Darragh Evarts and Allison Bonanno each tallied two goals apiece in the game.  Lauren Curtin played 46 mintues in net, tallying six saves in the contest.

Washington and Lee was led in scoring by Margaret Klein, who finished with three goals.  She was followed by Carly Taglienti, Lauren Procaccino and Hayley Soutter who each finished with two goals each.  Soutter and Taglienti led the team in ground balls with four each.  Cara Mulligan earned the victory in net, tallying 7 saves in the complete game.

The Maroons return to action on Monday, March 31st as they host Lynchburg College at Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
