Women's Lacrosse Tops Lynchburg 19-14 on Monday Night
SALEM – The Roanoke College defeated ODAC opponent Lynchburg College, 19-14 on Monday evening.  The Maroons now have a record of 6-5, 3-1 in the ODAC, while the Hornets sit with a mark of 4-6, 3-3 in ODAC play.
 
This is the third consecutive win for the Maroons over the Hornets, as Roanoke started this three game win streak in the ODAC Semifinals in 2012.  Darragh Evarts led the team with nine points, moving her into a tie for seventh all-time at Roanoke College with 219 points.  She ties Leslie Hunt '02, and is only six points behind Lisa Franzino '97 (225).
 
The Maroons took a commanding lead early in the contest, scoring off three free position shots in the first three minutes.  Darragh Evarts, Nicole Zelnik and Claire Feeney each scored on the free position shots to take a 3-0 lead with 27 minutes to play.  Feeney and Bonanno scored the next two goals for the Maroons, with Evarts and McCartin assisting, respectively.  Lynchburg punched in their first two goals within 15 seconds of one another, pulling within three, 5-2 with 21:46 to play.  Evarts tallied her second goal just 30 seconds later, with an assist from McCartin, her second of the night.
 
After Lynchburg's Bri slate scored an unassisted goal, Roanoke rattled off three more goals through the 14:12 mark.  Evarts found the back of the net twice during this span, both times assisted by Feeney.  The other goal was a player-up goal scored by Briana Storey, this time assisted by Evarts.  Feeney and Lynchburg's Slate traded a goal each through the 9:40 mark as Roanoke led 10-5 at this point.  The Hornets outscored Roanoke 5-2 in the final 9:27, with Maroon goals coming from Broghan McEnerney and Evarts.  The teams entered halftime with Roanoke leading 12-8.
 
Roanoke and Lynchburg went back and forth, matching goal for goal through the first nine minutes of the game.  During that time, the Maroons scored three goals, netted by Nicole Zelnik, Feeney and Bonanno.  Roanoke still led by four, 15-11 with 21:09 left to play.  Roanoke didn't score again for another two minutes until Morgan Conroy scored back to back goals.  Her first was on a free position shot, while the other came off of an assist by Evarts.  After Lynchburg's Ryland Scored at 6:40, Conroy scored another on a player-up situation, assisted again by Evarts.  In the final five minutes, Lynchburg tallied two goals, while Roanoke netted just one more, this time from Briana Storey.  Roanoke held their large advantage through the remainder of the contest as the Maroons picked up the 19-14 win over Lynchburg.
 
Roanoke was led in scoring by Darragh Evarts, who tallied five goals and four assists for a total of nine points.  She was followed in scoring by Claire Feeney, who put away four goals with two assists for six points.  Courtney McCartin dished out three assists, which was the second most on the team.  Feeney also finished with a team-high eight draw controls, while Evarts finished with seven.  Feeney and Bonanno tied for ground balls with five each.  Lauren Curtin played all 60 minutes in goal and tallied 14 saves.
 
The Hornets were led in scoring by both Caroline Kilby and Bri Slate, who each finished with four goals.  Lynchburg tallied just two assists, one from Caroline Carozza and the other from Maddie Koontz.  Grace Finnerty led the squad with four draw controls.  Hailey Bossert played all 60 minutes between the pipes as well, picking up six saves.
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 2nd as they play host to Guilford College at Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
