Women's Lacrosse Scores 25 in Win Over Sweet Briar
SWEET BRIAR – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team posted its highest scoring game of the year, after defeating Sweet Briar College 25-6 on Wednesday night. The Maroons now have a record of 7-7, 4-3 in the ODAC, while the Vixens are now 3-9, 1-6 in ODAC play.

Roanoke got off to a 3-0 roll in the first six minutes of today's game. Nicole Zelnik scored the first goal of the day, working off of a pass from Darragh Evarts to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead. She was followed shortly thereafter with goals from Allison Bonanno and Morgan Conroy, as Roanoke led 3-0 with 24:50 to play in the first half. The Maroons and the Vixens would each score a goal over the next 30 seconds. Sweet Briar's Allison McLamb netted the team's first goal off of an assist from Kim Orchowski. 20 seconds later, Evarts would score her first goal of the game, unassisted. After another Sweet Briar goal, Roanoke rattled off five straight goals through the 17:58 mark. During that span, Allison Bonanno netted two goals, while Meghan Gerrie, Morgan Conroy and Evarts each netted one. With 17 minutes to play, Roanoke led 9-2 over the Vixens.

Sweet Briar scored the next two goals with one each from Allison Hassard and Allison McLamb, with the latter goal coming off of a free position shot. After Sweet Briar scored two, Roanoke scored another five consecutive goals. Allison Beams started the run with an unassisted goal at 14:13. Three minutes later, Carley Sturges scored her lone goal of the game, working off of an assist from Morgan Conroy. Nicole Zelnik then scored her second of the night, unassisted. The final two goals through the 10:00 mark came from Evarts and Conroy. Sweet Briar scored one more goal in the first half as Kim Orchowski slipped one past the keeper on a free position shot, pulling the Vixen within nine 14-5. Roanoke would close the half with two more goals, one unassisted from Bonanno, while the other was a player-up goal from Allison Beams. Roanoke would enter the second half with a 16-5 lead over Sweet Briar.

The Maroons held the Vixens to just one goal in the second half, scoring nine consecutive goals from the start of the period. During the 23 minutes of Roanoke scoring, Darragh Evarts led the team with three goals. The remaining goals were all scored by different players, including: Julia Glanto, Jordan Visser, Allison Bonanno, Katerina Desimone, Broghan McEnerney and Catherine Pace. The Vixens scored one final goal with 3:14 to play after Allison McLamb found the back of the net, but Roanoke walked away with the 25-6 victory on the evening.

The Maroons were led in scoring by Darragh Evarts, who finished the night with six goals and two assists for eight points. She was followed by Allison Bonanno who scored five goals with two assists. Morgan Conroy posted three goals with one assist on the evening to rank third in points for the contest. Evarts also led the team In draw controls, pulling down eight during the game. Lauren Curtin finished the complete game with four saves.

For the Vixen, Allison McLamb led the team with three goals, tallying half of Sweet Briar's scoring total in the game. McLamb also won four draw controls to tie with Kelsey Barta for a team high in the category. Ashton Reid played 60 minutes in goal, finishing the night with nine saves.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 12th as they host Randolph College as part of Roanoke College Alumni Weekend. That game is scheduled for an 11:00 AM start time.
