Women's Lacrosse Scores 23 in Victory over Randolph on Alumni Weekend
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College opened the game with an 11-1 run spurred by five Claire Feeney goals on the way to a 23-6 win over Randolph College in ODAC women's lacrosse action. The Alumni Weekend win improves the Maroons' season records to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in league play. The WildCats fall to 5-10, 2-6.

Feeney was one of three Maroons to notch seven or more points as she finished with nine points on seven goals and a pair of assists. Allison Bonanno led all players with 13 points on five goals and eight helpers, the latter marking a season-high for the senior standout. Darragh Evarts scored four times and handed out a trio of assists on the way to seven points. Goalkeepers Lauren Curtin and Allison Shannon combined for five saves as they each minded the cage for 30 minutes. The duo saw 13 shots sent their direction.

Taylor Klevenz led Randolph with four points on two goals and two assists. Ashley Edwards also scored twice, helping out on one other tally. Samantha Fagone went the distance in net and made six stops after facing 34 total shots (29 on-goal).

The tone was set early --- and often --- by the Maroons as they jumped out to an 11-1 lead with barely 10 minutes gone from the opening whistle. Feeney's five goals and five assists by Bonanno highlighted the stretch. Evarts was a major player in the flow to those goals as she collected the majority of her 13 draw controls during that period. Randolph's lone goal came from Leah Hughes with 27:02 showing on the scoreboard, but that view also featured a 4-0 Roanoke lead prior to that tally.

The WildCats saw Klevenz record both of her goals in the final 19:46 of the first half, but Roanoke doubled her with four more goals to go into the break leading 15-3.

Although the pace slowed considerably in the second stanza, scoring was again the theme for Roanoke as they opened with six unanswered goals with two coming from Evarts on the way to a 21-3 advantage with 16:12 to play. Randolph found its footing for a few minutes as Nushaa Kaz and Edwards split the pipes, but Broghan McEnerney and Allison Beames made up for those two scores with goals of their own for a 23-5 lead with 2:14 to go.

Randolph moved the scoreboard for the game's final goal as Edwards capped her day with a tally with 31-seconds to play.

Roanoke also played today's game as a "Cancer Awareness" game, in memory of team friends, all who valiantly fought cancer at an early age. The Maroons wore tie-dye shirts to represent the many colors of cancer. The team played in memory of Evan Nicholson who passed in 2009 of Leukemia and MaDee Boxler who passed in February 2010 while battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The Maroons also played in memory of friend of the team, Katherine Grant, who passed away in August of 2013. All three young adults had non-profits or scholarships named for them. MaDee Boxler has The MaDee Project, Evan Nicholson has the Evan Nicholson Memorial Scholarship, and Katherine Grant has a non-profit called "Grant Us A Cure"

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 16 at Hollins University. The ODAC matchup is set for a 4:30 p.m. start.
