Women's Lacrosse Falls To #4 Middlebury on Monday
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team ran into a tough #4 ranked Middlebury College on Monday afternoon, falling 19-4 in Kerr Stadium.  The Maroons have a record of 0-2 on the season, while the Panthers are 5-1.

Middlebury's Chrissy Ritter scored two of the Panthers' first three goals of the game, as the team got out to a 3-0 start.  Roanoke's first goal came at the 20:44 mark, as Julia Galanto tallied an unassisted goal, pulling the Maroons back within two, 3-1.  After Galanto's goal, Middlebury went on a 6-0 run, which saw goals from five different players, including two from Bridget Instrum, her second and third of the game.  Roanoke scored back to back goals in under a minute-and-a-half, with the first coming off of a Darragh Evarts free position shot at 14:37.  Evarts goal made the score 9-2.  At the 13:18 mark, Claire Feeney received a pass from Evarts and slipped the ball into the back of the net, getting the Maroons back within six, 9-3.  However, the Panthers closed the final 10 minutes of the half on a 7-0 run, with two goals coming from Georgia Carroll.  At the end of the first 30 minutes, Roanoke trailed 16-3.

Middlebury scored three goals in the second half, one each from Instrum, Carroll and Hailey Cosseboom, her second of the game.  The Maroons continued to battle forcing seven turnovers in the second half.  Evarts scored her second goal with 5:52 to play, netting the goal off of another free position shot.  Evarts goal would prove to be the final goal of the game, as the Maroons fell to #4 Middlebury 19-4 on Monday.

Darragh Evarts led the Maroons in scoring with two goals, coming off three shots, all of which were on goal.  She also tallied the team's only assist in the contest.  Claire Feeney and Julia Galanto each finished the contest with one goal apiece.  The Maroons finished the game with 12 ground balls, led by Evarts with three, followed by Courtney McCartin and Lauren Curtin with two each.  Evarts also finished with a team high five draw controls, leading all players in the category.  Lauren Curtin played the first 45 minutes between the pipes, tallying four saves.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Bridget Instrum, who put away four goals for Middlebury.  Nine different players scored for the Panthers, with Georgia Carroll finishing with three goals and five other players with two goals each.  Mary O'Connell led the team with seven assists.  Katie Ritter was the ground ball leader with four, while Laurel Pascal and Catherine Fowler led in draw controls with four apiece.  Madeline Kinker gets the win in goal for Middlebury, playing the first half and tallying five saves.

Roanoke was outshot by Middlebury 26-14, while the Panthers also led in ground balls 24-12.  Roanoke went 2-3 on free position shots on the afternoon, as well as going 6-6 on clears.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday as they host Hollins University in Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
