Women's Lacrosse Blanks Hollins 19-0 on Wednesday
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team blanked Hollins University, 19-0 on Wednesday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 1-2, 1-2 in the ODAC, while Hollins is now 0-6, 0-3 in ODAC play.
 
The last time the Maroons held a team scoreless was on April 16th, 2014, when they defeated Hollins 20-0.  Roanoke now has a  35-2 all-time record against Hollins.  Darragh Evarts led the Maroons in total points, scoring four goals and dishing out four assists.  Evarts also finished the game with 10 draw controls.  In the 2014 season, Evarts had four games where she tallied 10 or more draw controls, including a school record 16 against St. John Fisher on March 4, 2014. 
 
Roanoke started strong out of the gate, scoring four goals in the first two minutes of play.  Allison Beams tallied the initial goal just 22 seconds into the contest, fielding an assist from Claire Feeney.  Feeney scored the next two goals, with the second getting an assist from Nicole Zelnik.  Zelnik also scored her first goal, unassisted at the 28:21 mark to give the Maroons a 4-0 lead.  Roanoke went on to score seven more goals by the end of the first 10 minutes of play.  During that span, Courtney McCartin and Zelnik each scored two goals, while Evarts, Meredith Bigelow and Catherine Pace tallied one apiece.
 
Roanoke scored five more goals by the end of the first half.  Two more goals came from Darragh Evarts, while she also assisted in the final two goals of the half.  Mckenna Polak scored at the 15:05 mark, then the next goal came 13 minutes later when Catherine Pace scored her second of the game.  Zelnik notched the last goal of the half with four seconds left on the clock.  At halftime, Roanoke led 16-0.
 
Scoring diminished considerably in the second half, as the Maroons potted just three goals.  Evarts tallied her fourth on an unassisted effort at 25:52.  At 13:03, Broghan McEnerney found the back of the net, also unassisted.  Madison Levine scored the final goal of the game, slipping one past the keeper with 2:02 to play.  Roanoke picked up its first win of the game with a 19-0 win over Hollins.
 
Also leading the Maroons in scoring was Nicole Zelnik with four goals, while handing out two assists.  Also having a multi-goal game on Wednesday were Courtney McCartin, Claire Feeney and Chaterine Pace with two goals each.  Feeney also finished the game with two assists.  Lauren Curtin picked up the win in net, playing nearly 26 minutes.  Mckenzie Scott and Allison Shannon also saw time in net, finishing with two saves each.
 
Hollins finished with four shots on the game, with two each coming from Christina Havrila and Jesse Desse.  Emily Lowther played the complete game in net and tallied 10 saves.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 28th as they play host to St. Mary's College in Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
