Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Bridgewater in 11-9 Win
SALEM- The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team held off Bridgewater College 11-9 on Monday evening, winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference at Kerr Stadium.  The Maroons are now 2-3 on the year, with a record of 2-2 in ODAC play.  The Eagles drop down to .500 with a record of 5-5, 2-2 in the ODAC.

The Maroons are 33-3-1 all time against Bridgewater College. Roanoke has won 31 consecutive games against the Eagles, dating back to 1987.

Bridgewater scored the first goal of the night as Meredith Wimbrow found the back of the net off of a pass from Jenna Devilbiss.  Just two minutes after the first goal, at the 21:26 mark, Julia Galanto netted Roanoke's first with an assist from Claire Feeney.  Darragh Evarts gave the Maroons their first lead with an unassisted goal in the 17 minute mark.  Bridgewater's Claire Palermo-Re tied the game a minute later with an unassisted goal of her own.

After seven scoreless minutes, Roanoke piled on back-to-back goals against the Eagles.  Courtney McCartin scored the first of the two at 9:10.  Meredith Bigelow followed suit three minutes later off of a pass from Evarts, taking a quick 4-2 lead.  Bridgewater answered with two goals over the next three minutes, tying the game again, this time at 4-4.  However, Claire Feeney slammed home a pair of goals in the final two minutes, one assisted by Nicole Zelnik, the other by Evarts, to enter halftime with a 6-4 advantage.

The Eagles started the second half as they had the first, scoring the first goal of the period to pull within one goal.  Evarts answered with a goal at the 23:37 mark with an assist from Nicole Zelnik to reclaim the two goal advantage.  Bridgewater's Jesse Colligan brought Bridgewater back within one at 19:22 but Roanoke was getting ready to get on a roll.  Roanoke scored four unanswered goals over the next six minutes.  Claire Feeney scored the first and third of these goals, the third coming from a free position shot.  The second goal of the run came from Zelnik, assisted by Evarts.  Evarts capped a goal of her own at 11:03 in the final goal of the streak.  With 10 minutes to play, Roanoke led 11-6.

Bridgewater scored on three free position shots in the final four and a half minutes, but those were the only goals Bridgewater would get for the remainder of the contest as Roanoke picked up the 11-9 win.

Roanoke was led in scoring by Claire Feeney, who put up four goals off of six shots on goal.  She also tallied one assist and two ground balls.  Darragh Evarts notched six points with three goals and three assists.
