Women's Lacrosse Makes It Six In A Row, Defeats Lynchburg 14-7
LYNCHBURG – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team is on a six game win streak after defeating Lynchburg College 14-7 on Wednesday evening in ODAC action.  The Maroons are now 7-3, 7-2 in ODAC play, while the Hornets are 7-7, 5-4 in the ODAC.
 
The women's lacrosse team is undefeated currently in the month of April, with this six-game win streak tracing back to March 30th after defeating Bridgewater 11-9.  The Maroons have had four straight games with 14 goals or more, and are outscoring their opponents 95-41.  Roanoke has held its opponents in the last six games to less than 10 goals each.
 
Reigning ODAC Player of the Week, Claire Feeney, scored four of the Maroons first seven goals, as Roanoke hopped out to a 7-0 lead to start the half.  Feeney had two goals assisted by Darragh Evarts, one off of a free position shot and another unassisted.  The other three goals in the opening rally were scored by Allison Beames, Courtney McCartin and Meredith Bigelow.  Lynchburg stopped the streak with two goals starting at the 5:24 mark, with one each from Abby Sard and Katie Seidel.  The Maroons and Hornets traded goals for the remainder of the half, with Roanoke's tallies coming from Allison Beames and two from Meredith Bigelow.  After the first half, Roanoke led 10-4.
 
Darragh Evarts scored her first goal of the night just two minutes into the second half, with an assist from Feeny.  Lynchburg's Abby Sard and Katherine Francis scored the next two goals, cutting Roanoke's lead back to five, 11-6.  Starting at 19:44, Evarts scored two more goals within the next minute, with assists from Feeney and Nicole Zelnik.  Feeney potted one more goals with 6:05 to play, assisted by Evarts.  Lynchburg found the back of the net one final time with 3:05 left, as Seidel scored an unassisted goal.  After the final horn sounded, Roanoke picked up the 14-7 victory.
 
Claire Feeney led the Maroons with five goals and three assists, coming off of 10 shots.  Darragh Evarts was close behind with three goals and four assists, also picking up four draw controls.  Meredith Bigelow had three goals and two assists, with a team high five draw controls.  Lauren Curtin played the complete game with 10 saves.
 
Lynchburg was led by Abby Sard, Katie Seidel and Caroline Carozza, who each tallied two goals on the night.  Katherine Francis and Caroline Carozza had one assist apiece.  Hailey Bossert was tabbed with the loss, making five saves.
 
Roanoke outshot Lynchburg 29-22 on the night, but also led in turnovers 16-14.  Roanoke held the Draw Control advantage (13-10), while Lynchburg led in ground balls 18-16.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 18th as they travel to Ashland to face Randolph-Macon in the final ODAC game of the regular season.  That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
