Women's Lacrosse Falls to Randolph-Macon in Regular Season Finale
ASHLAND – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team fell in their ODAC regular season finale, 12-10 against Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons finish the regular season with a record of 7-4, 7-3 in the ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets are 12-3, 8-1 in ODAC play.
 
Even with the loss in today's game, Roanoke secures the #4 seed in the ODAC Tournament with a conference record of 7-3.  With the #4 seed, the Maroons will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday, April 25th against the #5 seed in the ODAC Tournament, which will be Lynchburg College, with an ODAC record of 6-4.  Roanoke recently defeated Lynchburg College 14-7 on Wednesday, April 15.  The last time the Maroons faced Lynchburg in the ODAC Tournament was in the ODAC Semifinals in 2012, where the Maroons won 13-12.
 
Randolph-Macon's Janelle Whitman scored the first goal of the game at 28:39, scoring off of a free position shot.  Roanoke's Darragh Evarts tied the game back up at 1-1 just a few minutes later with an unassisted goal.  Starting at 22:39, the Yellow Jackets scored three goals in the span of 38 seconds, taking a 4-1 advantage.  Roanoke responded with a pair of unanswered goals, one by Claire Feeney, the other from Nicole Zelnik, as the Maroons trailed 4-3 with 17:51 to play in the half.  After another Randolph-Macon goal by Whitman, Allison Beames scored off of an assist from Claire Feeney, keeping the Maroons within one.
 
The Yellow Jackets scored another three goals, one by Whitman, the other two by Alicia Hsieh.  With 7:39 to play, Roanoke trailed 8-4.  Claire Feeney scored with 1:12 left in the half, while Evarts potted one more with five seconds left in the half to get the Maroons within two, 8-6 at halftime.
 
Roanoke opened up the second half with a goal by Feeney at the 26:47 mark, unassisted.  After a Randolph-Macon goal at 24:01, Roanoke scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 9-9.  The first goal came from Feeney, while the second was scored by Evarts on a free position shot.   But, it was Randolph-Macon who went on a 3-0 run that ran through the 3:30 mark, that sealed the game for the Yellow Jackets.  The Maroons scored one final goal at 3:15, as Meredith Bigelow netted a free position shot, but could not close the two goal gap in the final three minutes.  The Maroons fell to Randolph-Macon 12-10 on Saturday.
 
The Maroons were led in scoring by ODAC Player of the Week, Claire Feeney, with four goals and one assist.  She finished the game with eight shots, seven of which were on goal.  Darragh Evarts followed with three goals of her own, coming off of six shots.  Evarts led the team with two draw controls, while Feeney and Meghan Gerrie had team highs in ground balls with two each.  Lauren Curtin played the complete game in net and tallied eight saves.
 
The Yellow Jackets were led by Janelle Whitman, who scored six goals off of six shots on the afternoon.  She was followed by Alicia Hsieh, tallying three goals.  Susie Snee, Allie Franklin, ,Laney Dee and Katie Russo all had one assist each.  Whitman also led all players with five draw controls.  Jamie Langbein played 30 minutes in goal for Randolph-Macon, tallying seven saves.
 
The Maroons will be back in action on Saturday, April 25th as they play host to Lynchburg College in the ODAC Quarterfinals.  The time of that game is still to be determined.
