Claire Feeney Named ODAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year; Six Maroons Earn All-Conference Honors

Salem, Va. – Roanoke College senior Claire Feeney has been named the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year and was one of six Maroons to be named to the all-conference team on Wednesday.

Feeney and Emma Boris were named First-Team All-ODAC. Courtney McCartin,Nicole Zelnik and Meredith Bigelow were named second team and Julia Galanto was a third-team selection.

Feeney led the ODAC in points with 94 which is the ninth highest total in a single season by a Roanoke player. Feeney's 56 goals, 38 assists and 62 draw controls all rank fourth in the ODAC. Her 38 assists is eighth best in the RC record books. Feeney becomes the 11th Maroon to earn ODAC Player of the Year honors and the first since Gina Valles in 2010.

A freshman defender, Boris made an immediate impact for the Maroons playing in 17 games this season. Boris was second in the ODAC with 34 caused turnovers and picked up 45 groundballs which was sixth most in the league. She also snared 26 draw controls.

McCartin picked up her first career all-conference honor following a junior season in which she finished the season with 72 points, which was fourth-best in the ODAC. She scored 35 goals which was 13th highest in the league, while her 37 assists ranked fifth.

Zelnik garnered her first career all-league honor and joined McCartin on the second-team attack. The senior tied McCartin with 35 goals and added seven assists on the season. Her 42 points ranked 19th best in the ODAC.

Bigelow was named to the second-team midfield a year after she earned third-team honors. Despite missing five games due to injury, Bigelow finished the season with 40 goals which is eighth best in the league. She added 11 assists for a total of 51 points which ranked 12th in the ODAC.

A junior defender, Galanto was named to the third-team, earning her first All-ODAC laurel. Serving as a team captain along with Zelnik and Bigelow, the junior caused 11 turnovers on the year to go along with 23 groundballs and 16 draw controls.
