The Lead: No. 17 Christopher used strong first-half en route to a 19-10 win over Roanoke in women's lacrosse in Salem on Friday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Courtney McCartin and Meredith Bigelow each had three goals while Claire Feeney had two goals and dished out three assists for a team-best five points. Nicole Zelnik and Allison Beames each a goal for RC as well.
- Catie Chess scored seven times for CNU, while Sarah Culver scored five goals and had two assists for seven points.
- Christopher Newport outshot Roanoke 33-30 and converted 15-of-17 clears. RC connected on 11-of-20 of clears and grabbed 16 of the 27 draws led by Feeney, Bigelow, Emma Boris and Lainey Decker who all nabbed three.
- CNU jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 1:42 into the game before Feeney setup McCartin for a strike at the 18:34 mark of the first-half.
- The Captains answered with four of the next five goals before Bigelow made it 6-3 with 11:43 to play.
- CNU then scored four straight goals to make it 10-3 and would go into the locker room with a 12-6 advantage.
- Roanoke rallied in the second-half with three-straight goals to cut it to 15-10 with just over 17 minutes to play but that would be as close as it would get.
