The Lead: The Roanoke College Women's Lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with a 20-8 victory over Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday morning in San Juan.

How it Happend
  • Claire Feeney led the Maroons with nine points on the afternoon scoring six goals and adding three assists. Meredith Bigelow had five goals and two assists to go along with seven draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Courtney McCartin had four goals and dished out three assists in the win, while Catherine Pace scored twice, had three assists and nabbed three draw controls.
  • The Maroons outshot the Battling Bishops 34-20 and won 19-of-26 draw controls during the game. The RC defense allowed OWU to convert just 9-of-24 clearing attempts and forced 20 turnovers.
  • Feeney got the scoring going just 44 seconds into the game before back-to-back strikes by Bigelow made it 3-0 Roanoke less than five minutes in.
  • After Ohio Wesleyan made it 3-1, RC went on a 6-1 run that was capped by a Feeney unassisted goal with just over 10 minutes to go in the half that made it 9-2.
  • OWU scored the final two goals of the first-half to cut the RC lead to 10-5 at the intermission but the Maroons came out and got goals from Bigelow and McCartin to start the second stanza and take a 12-5 advantage.
  • A Taylor Weis man-up goal for OWU made it 13-7 18:49, but Roanoke would finish the game on a 7-1 run to seal the win.
  • Emma Blair made six saves in net for RC, while Kelly Coffyn made seven stops for OWU.
