Records: Maroons 2-1 / 0-0 ODAC | Spartans 3-1
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: After returning from a Spring Break trip to Puerto Rico with a win, Roanoke was back on the turf of Kerr Stadium for a Sunday matchup with York College. The Maroons took an 7-3 lead into the half and scored to add to their advantage in the opening minutes of the second half. However, 11-straight Spartan goals would shift the tide as York went on for the 15-10 win.

How it Happened:

  • After winning the opening draw, Lilly Blair scored the first goal of the afternoon, just 48 seconds into the game. Riley Chase made it 2-0 and when Blair found Emerson Foster, the Maroons lead was up to 3-0.
  • Roanoke brought a 4-1 advantage into the second quarter, two more Chase scores followed by Blair's second of the contest and RC led 7-1. York looked to take a little momentum into the break ad after netting the final two goals of the first 30-minutes, the Roanoke lead was 7-3 at the half.
  • Tiernan Connor scored off a feed from Molly Kasemeyer as the Maroon lead grew to 8-3. After a spartan score, Foster was assessed her second yellow card of the game and when the senior went to the bench, York seized control of the draw circle and the game.
  • Over the next 15-minutes the Spartans would enjoy a 7-3 edge in draw controls on their way to 10 consecutive goals, taking a 13-8 edge. After a 14th Spartan score, Roanoke would use another Blair goal followed by a fourth Chase marker to get back into the game, 14-10. Time began to run out on the Maroons and a late Spartan goal would see York hold on for a 15-10 win.
  • Chase led all goal scorers with four while Blair added three scores and a pair of assists. Connor, Foster, and Maddie Stopkoski each scored once with Claire Eisenhart and Natalie Mason each caused three turnovers. Mason grabbed five ground balls and as did goalie Kyleigh Chickering. Chickering suffered her first loss of the season, recording six saves.
