The Basics – ODAC Finals

Location: Lexington, Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke women's lacrosse team would face Washington and Lee in the Finals of the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons would look to turn the tables on the Generals that defeated them in this matchup last season. The Generals scored four times in the opening quarter and built a 6-3 lead at the half. The third period would see Washington and Lee start to pull away and, in the end, the Generals had defeated the Maroons in the Championship game,11-5, for the second consecutive season.

How it Happened:

  • Washington and Lee scored four, first quarter, goals and if not for a Tiernan Connor score would have shutout the Maroons in the first 15-minutes of play.
  • Lilly Blair scored the first two goals of the second quarter to pull to within, 4-3. However, W&L got a pair of scores in the final minute to take the lead, 6-3, and the momentum into the break.
  • The Generals defense did the rest, holding Roanoke scoreless for the third frame and the first seven minutes of the finale. Blair and Emerson Foster scored in the closing minutes, but Roanoke would fall in the Championship game for the second season in a row.
  • Blair scored three goals, Conner added a score and an assist with Foster adding a goal. Claire Eisenhart picked up a game high six ground balls while Kyleigh Chickering grabbed five ground balls and registered six saves in goal.
  • Roanoke would place three on the All-Tournament team: Blair, Chickering, and Addison Schmidt.

Up Next: Roanoke, receiving votes in the latest IWLCA Top 25 poll, will have to wait for the NCAA DIII selection committee announces to field for the 2022 NCAA Women's Lacrosse National Tournament to see if the Maroon's season will continue.
