No. 16 Maroons Receive Bid Into 2023 NCAA Div. III Women's Lacrosse Tournament

SALEM, Va. -- The season is not over for the No. 16 Roanoke Women's Lacrosse team as they have earned an at-large bid into the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

The Maroons (15-3) will travel for the First and Second Round games. They begin with a contest against Bryn Athyn (11-2) with the winner facing off against host site Franklin & Marshall (15-4).

Roanoke advanced to the ODAC Tournament final this season where it dropped a heartbreaker to No. 2 Washington and Lee. Lilly Blair leads the Maroons this season with 75 points (47 goals, 28 assist). Not far behind is fellow Salem native Libby Bowman with 72 points (54 goals, 18 assists). Sophia Chickering leads Roanoke in draw control wins with 128. On the defensive side of the field, Natalie Mason has the team-high 48 ground balls while Addison Schmidt has forced a team-high 38 caused turnovers. Kyleigh Chickering has started all 17 games she has played in with a 14-3 overall record with 110 saves in goal in 893 minutes.

Bryn Athyn won the 2023 Colonial States Athletic Conference title in a 10-8 win over Wilson College. The Lions are led by Sabrina Brock with 65 points (33 goals, 32 assists) with Shea Gormley tallying 61 points (53 goals, 8 assists). Gormley leads the Lions in three defensive categories draw controls wins (93), ground balls (61), and caused turnovers (28). Chloe Munyon has played every minute this season in goal for Bryn Athyn for a 11-2 record. She has made 70 saves this season.

No. 10 Franklin & Marshall will host the first two rounds of the tournament and await the winner of Roanoke and Bryn Athyn. The Diplomats come into the tournament after winning the Centennial Conference Championship over No. 8 Gettysburg 15-14. Lydia Cassilly leads F&M in poitns this season with 60 (44 goals, 16 assists) with Lauren Pittman just three points off with 57 (43 goals, 14 assists). Madison Bray leads the Diplomats with 68 draw control wins with Belle Dintino leads F&M in both ground balls (35) and caused turnovers (25). Alyssa Moran has started all 19 games in goal, making 115 saves in 943 minutes.

The first round contest for Roanoke with Bryn Athyn is a rematch of the first round last year. The Maroons won 23-4 over the Lions before falling to Gettysburg in overtime, 9-8.
