• The Short Story: The Roanoke wrestling team picked up a 31-14 win over the Ferrum Panthers on the road Thursday evening to improve to 5-0 in the ODAC. The Maroons got two falls, two tech. falls, and three decisions in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• What was close to start at 125 lbs. Mac Cafurello responded in the third period and pulled away for the 11-6 decision. Corey Messick followed up with a 16-1 tech. fall over his opponent at 133 lbs. before the end of the first period to give Roanoke an 8-0 lead. Both Dustin Smith (141) and Morgan Robinson (149) earned falls in the first period to give the Maroons a 20-0 lead. Andrew McDougal got a takedown in the first period and the two more points in the third to secure a 4-0 decision and allow Roanoke to have a 23-0 lead heading into an intermission.
• After the Panthers got a decision win at 165 lbs. Kyle Lee responded for Roanoke at 174 lbs. with a 9-4 decision to put the Maroons ahead 26-3 with three matches remaining. Nationally-Ranked No. 7 Mahlic Sallah used a huge second and third period to pull away for a 17-0 tech. fall at 184 lbs. Ferrum responded at with their own tech. fall at 197 lbs. to pull within 31-8. The Panthers closed out the match with a fall at 285 lbs. with the Maroons winning the ODAC dual 31-14.
