• The Short Story: The Roanoke wrestling team earned a share of the 2022-23 ODAC wrestling title on Tuesday evening despite a 27-12 setback to Averett at the Bast Center Gym. The Maroons got wins at 133 lbs., 141 lbs., and 184 lbs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the closest light weights in duals this season, the Maroons picked up a pair of wins with Sean Hall winning by major decision at 133 lbs. and Mark Samuel won by tech. fall at 141 lbs. Averett got wins at 125 lbs., 149 lbs., and 157 lbs. to have a 10-9 lead as the two teams headed to an intermission before the heavy weights.
• Averett got wins at both 165 lbs. and 174 lbs. to start the heavy weight classes before No. 7 Mahlic Sallah got a decision win at 184 lbs. The Cougars responded with wins at the final two weight classes.
