The Basics:

The Lead: After two long, tough days, Roanoke's Mahlic Sallah finished eighth at the 2023 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships across town at the Berglund Center. 

Sallah Highlights:

• Sallah opened day two by taking on the No. 3 seed David McCullough of the US Coast Guard Academy. McCullough got a takedown with just over a minute left in the period for a 2-0 lead. Trailing 3-0 heading into the third, Sallah chose bottom to start the period and used an escape just 14 seconds into the period to cut the lead down to 3-1. McCullough would score another takedown and have over a minute of riding time for the 6-1 win.
• In the seventh-place match, Sallah fell to Charles Baczek of Wabash in an 8-0 major decision. Baczek led 4-0 after the first two periods with Sallah picking neutral to start the fourth. Baczek grabbed a takedown, a second stalling penalty point, as well as the riding time point for the 8-0 win. 

SEASON COMPLETE:

• The Maroons completed their second season as a program with a share of the ODAC title and a second All-American honors for Sallah.
