Women's Soccer Defeats Sewanee 4-0 in Non-Conference Play
SALEM - The Roanoke College women's soccer team defeated Sewanee University 4-0 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons advance to 5-2-1 on the season while the Tigers are 2-5 in 2012.

Roanoke holds the all-time advantage over Sewanee 4-0-1. The Maroons last played the Tigers in on September 4th, 2011 in the Lynchburg Shellenberger Classic, where Roanoke won 2-0.

It didn't take long for the Maroons to find the back of the net as Ashley Barnes notched a header goal off a pass from Rebekah Adams just 1:56 into the game. Adams picked up her second assist just minutes later as she hit a through pass to Cindy Suttora, who tucked one under a diving goalkeeper to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead just 9:45 into the contest.

At halftime, The Maroons had outshot the Tigers 9-1, with five of those shots being on goal. Roanoke also held the advantage in corner kicks 3-2.

Adams, coming off a hat-trick in the Maroons' previous game against Eastern Mennonite on September 19th, struck again as she scored in the start of the second half. Adams chipped the ball over the keeper into the upper left corner of the goal to give Roanoke the 3-0 lead. Just moments later, Carmen Graves found herself on a breakaway after a pass from Adams, and scored the Maroons' fourth and final goal of the game.

The Maroons held the lead in shots 14-7 over the Tigers, as the Roanoke defense held Sewanee out of their offensive third for most of the contest. Adams led the Maroons in shots with three, followed by Stephanie Parenteau and Ashley Barnes with two each. Carolyn Sarbacher and Sarah Dvorak split time in goal with Dvorak making three saves in 25 minutes.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, September 26th as they host their second of four consecutive home games at Kerr Stadium, this time against Randolph College. The contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
