The Lead: The opening day of the 2021 Roanoke Invitational Showcase would see the Maroons use a dominate offensive attack to pick up a 6-0 win over Millsaps.

Highlights:

  • In a first half that would see the home team enjoy a 16-3 shot edge, Roanoke got their first goal of the afternoon when Erin Flamm sent a free kick from midfield into the middle of the zone. The Millsaps defense tried to clear but hit the post and then another defender tried to kick it wide, but the ball found the back of the net.
  • With a little over 15 minutes on the clock, the constant pressure from the Maroons would allow Logan Tyler to add to the lead. With just two minutes left, Lily Pawliczak made it 3-0 at the break.
  • In a 12-minute span in the second half, Makayla Metzler scored a pair of goals from virtually the same spot on the field. The first off a feed from Emma Woods while converting a free kick for her second collegiate score.
  • In the final minute, the Majors keeper tried to clear the ball but it hit a defender and Tessa McMillan won the race to the free ball for the sixth score of the afternoon.
  • 70% of the action was played in the Millsaps zone as Roanoke would enjoy a 29-4 shot advantage.
  • In goal, Taylor Gallik got the start before being relieved by Victoria Correll as the two combined for the Maroon's second straight shutout.

Up next: Tomorrow at 3:00pm, Roanoke will face a Farmingdale State squad that picked up a 2-1 win over Lynchburg in the opener.
