The Lead: The Roanoke College women's soccer team opened the 2022 season in style with a 2-0 shutout win on the road over Greensboro College. The Maroons scored a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes of the game to collect the win.

Highlights:

  • Both teams went scoreless throughout the first half with the Maroons outshooting the host Pride 11-0. RC also took nine corner kicks in the half to none for Greensboro.
  • The Maroons took seven more shots before the Pride took their first and ended the game with a 23-2 shot lead over GC.
  • Tessa McMillian scored her first goal of the season in the 76th minute off an assist from Morgan O'Neill to put the Maroons up 1-0 late in the second half.
  • MC Petrucelli put the game away with a goal at 85:30 off a pass from Lauren Rubino. RC was able to hold off the Pride in the final 4:30 to secure the win.
  • Taylor Gallik got the shutout win to start the season, making two saves on both shots she faced. She now has two solo shutouts and three more combined shutouts dating back to the beginning of last season. She has allowed only one goal in the past 487:20 in net for the Maroons
  • In addition to the 21-shot margin over GC, the Maroons had 10 corner kicks to zero for the hosts. Both teams committed four fouls.
