The Short Story: The Roanoke College women's soccer team came from behind to spoil the homecoming game for ODAC newcomer Averett on Saturday afternoon in Danville, 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Celia de Diego scored the lone goal for AU at 35:26. It was also the only shot on goal the Maroons would allow for the entire contest.
  • The Cougars kept the lead at 1-0 at halftime.
  • Morgan O'Neill took a pass from Brooke Nicholson as part of a drive down the middle of the field and at the top of the box. O'Neill fired the shot past the goalie to level the match at 1-1 at 61:38.
  • About 13 minutes later, it Nicholson took the loose ball inside the goal box and fired a shot across the box to the upper left corner of the goal to give Roanoke the 2-1.
  • The Maroons held on for the final 13 minutes to preserve the 2-1 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Carrington Lippi played all 90 minutes in goal and improved to 3-1 on the season.
  • The goal and assist for Nicholson was her second goal and assist of the season.
  • The last time the Maroons started off ODAC play with a 3-0 record was the 2017 when they started off with five-straight wins.
