HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Roanoke College women's tennis team earned a record of 3-5 at the Spring Break Tennis Fest last week in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
 
On Sunday, March 6^th the Maroons kicked off the tournament with two wins. East Stroudsburg won the doubles matchup, beginning the match 2-1. Roanoke's #3 doubles team of Kaity Diskerud and Reed Kegel blanked Sarah DiGregory and Lauren Morrissey with the only doubles win. Roanoke proved themselves in singles and took five of the six singles match ups to steel the match from ESU, ending in a 6-3 Maroon victory.

Later that afternoon Roanoke battled Clarion University where they stole wins in each doubles and singles match up to end opening day with a 9-0 victory.

On Monday, March 7^th the Maroons battled regionally ranked Wilkes University. Wilkes started off strong and swept all doubles matches, putting Roanoke down 0-3 from the start. Emily Henderson lost a tough battle at #1 singles against Kendra Croker with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-10, and Rhealyn Dinkins fell short at #2 singles with a score of 3-6, 0-6. Roanoke came back and won the bottom four singles to try and take back the match from Wilkes, but ultimately fell short with a loss of 4-5.

On Tuesday, March 8^th Roanoke took on another double header against Gettysburg College and Ashland University. Against Gettysburg, Roanoke started off strong sweeping all three doubles matches against the Bullets. Gettysburg attempted a comeback by winning four singles matches, but Kristen McDowell won at #3 singles against Emily Lutz with a score of 6-4, 0-6, 10-6  and Tracy Kile won at #4 singles against Gillian Minnerly with a score of 6-3, 6-1 clinching another win for the Maroons.

Later that afternoon, Roanoke battled Ashland University ending the day in another close match. Ashland University took two out of three doubles matches, but Kile and Lydia Dey held their ground at #3 doubles against Elizabeth Kidd and Kaitlin Snider with a score of 8-3. The Maroons took points at #2 singles with Dinkins beating Martina Baca 6-2, 6-4 and #6 singles with Dey beating Kidd 6-2, 7-5. Despite many other close singles battles, Ashland came out on top with an overall score of 6-3.

On Thursday, March 10^th the Maroons took on their third double header for the week against Millsaps College and West Liberty University. Against Millsaps, Roanoke's #2 doubles team, Emma Barker and McDowell, started off strong by winning 8-3. Millsaps won the other two doubles matches, leaving them with the lead to start singles. Dinkins and Diskerud won both their matches at #2 singles and #5 singles to get the second and third point for the Maroons, but Millsaps came out on top with a score of 6-3.

On Thursday night, the Maroons challenged West Liberty University under the lights at HHI. The Hilltoppers took all three doubles matches, but the Maroons didn't go down without a fight. Both #1 and #3 doubles teams lost 9-7 in two very tight matches. West Liberty won all singles matches to end the match in a 9-0 shutout against Roanoke.

On Friday, March 11^th Roanoke had their last match of their Spring Break Tennis Fest against Webster University. Henderson and Dinkins won at #1 doubles against Kaylen Kress and Sara Rice with a score of 8-3. Kegel and Catherine Lee also picked up a win at #3 doubles against Jesse Steffens-Willis and Stephanie Lass. The Gorloks won at #2 doubles, so the Maroons were sitting at a 2-1 lead going into the singles matches. Roanoke picked up wins at #4 singles and #5 singles, but Webster took all other singles matches, leaving them the winners of a close 5-4 match.
