Roanoke defeats Bridgewater, 3-2 in Volleyball Action

Harrisonburg, Va. --- The Roanoke College volleyball team defeated Bridgewater, 3-2 in Harrisonburg this evening. The women improved its record to 12-1 and a 2-1 mark in the ODAC. The Eagles fell to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in the ODAC. The scores were 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22 and 15-13.
The win marks the first for Roanoke since the 2004 season in the ODAC Quarterfinals. It also marks the first win at Bridgewater since the 1984 season. The 12-1 start is the best in school-history. As for individual marks, junior Caitlyn Long became the school's all-time leader in digs with 1,075 for her career. She needed eight to break the mark as she met that quota with exactly eight digs on the evening.
The women showed a ton of heart with their backs against the wall early against a tough Bridgewater team who was a 30-game winner last season. Down 0-2 with the third set approaching, coach Blair Trail made some coaching and personnel adjustments and it paid off as the Maroons took the final three sets to claim their second ODAC win.
Kelsey Largen led Roanoke in kills tonight with career-high 17 along with 15 digs. Maggie Wagner had 11 kills and 15 digs to pace the Maroons. Marcy Conner led the women with three blocks on the evening.
Kate Feldman was the leader tonight as she finished with 43 assists, 15 digs and three kills to lead Roanoke to an historic win. Emily Martin covered the court well and led the Maroons with a career-best 19 digs.
Junior Lindsay Wright came in at crucial points of the match and delivered with her aggressiveness as she stopped several servers' momentum in helping her team to a milestone comeback win.
The women return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 as they travel to Ashland, Va. to take on Randolph-Macon. The Maroons are 6-10 all-time vs. the Yellow Jackets and have lost every match to them since 2003. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
