Roanoke Falls to Bridgewater 3-0 in Volleyball Friday Night
SALEM – The Roanoke College volleyball team fell in three sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-23) to Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent, Bridgewater College on Friday evening. The Maroons now have a record of 7-4; 1-1 ODAC, while the Eagles now sit with a mark of 6-4, and 2-0 in ODAC play.

The Maroons had the Eagles on the ropes early in the first set leading for most of the game. Roanoke led by as many as four in the set, but the Eagles started to close the gap towards the end. Bridgewater took its first lead of the game at 24-23 when Katie Long tallied the kill off of an assist from Lindsay Kallam. The Eagles put away the next point to take the first set, 25-23

After Bridgewater came away with the second set, 25-13, Roanoke started to roll again in the third set. The Maroons took a 4-1 lead after a series of errors from the Eagles. Roanoke extended its lead to five after a pair of service aces from Carrie Heldreth, giving the Maroons a 7-2 lead. But the Eagles closed the gap in the next six points, including five served by Nikki Snyder. After trailing by one, Roanoke won the next four points to go up 11-8. The teams traded points back and forth until they were tied 23-23, as they were in the first set. After a Roanoke service error, Bridgewater won the final point to defeat the Maroons 3-0 in ODAC play.

Samantha Klostermann led the team in kills with 10, going along with her 11 digs on the evening. She was followed in kills by Macey Tyree with eight, as she also led the team in digs with 14. Brittany Peterson finished second in the team in digs, pulling up 12 on the night. Jessica Block dished out a team high 15 assists, followed by Alexandra Martin with nine.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, September 14th as they play again at home, this time against Eastern Mennonite University. That contest is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
