The Lead: The Roanoke College volleyball teamed entered the postseason with a trip to Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Volleyball Tournament. The Maroons fell to Macon in five sets back in October and looked to pull off the upset of the ODAC's second ranked team. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead, 2-0, before a Roanoke rally made it 2-1. However, Randolph-Macon took the fourth set to eliminate the Maroons from the tournament.

Highlights:

  • An Angel Ross kill would give Roanoke an 11-10 lead in the opening set. The Yellow Jackets tied it up and ended the set on a 15-5 run to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Trailing by two, 7-9, RC would see their hosts take nine of the next 11 points to seize control of the second frame and take a 2-0 lead.
  • Down six in the third, 9-15, a kill by Olivia Newman and service ace by Kennedy Clemmer started 6-1 run that would tie the set at 16-16. A Newman ace would give RC the lead and they built a three-point spread that they held throughout. Another Ross kill gave the Maroons the set, 25-22, and got them back into the match.
  • However, Randolph-Macon would score the first three and 11 of the first 16 points of the fourth set to put an end to any sort of a Roanoke rally as the Yellow Jackets would take the match, 3-1, and advance to the semifinal round.
  • Ross led the Roanoke attack with seven kills while Newman and Linsey Bailey added six apiece. Newman had 13 assists with Kylee Draper helping on nine RC points. Bailey (11) and Clemmer (10) each recorded double digit digs.
