The Short Story: After dropping the first set, the Roanoke College women's volleyball team came from behind to win three-straight sets and tamed the Ferrum College Panthers, 3-1, on the road in Ferrum.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons led by as many as six early in the first set (12-6) before the Panthers went on a 10-2 run to pull ahead 16-14.
  • Roanoke retook the lead and had 22-19 advantage before Ferrum won six of the final seven points to take the first set 25-23.
  • The two teams went back and forth early in the second set, with the Panthers have a 13-12 lead. The Maroons then went on a tear winning 14 of the next 17 points and finished off the set with a service ace from Peyton Kirchner.
  • Trailing 3-1, Roanoke went on an 8-1 run to jump out to an 9-4 lead. The Panthers would come within five points at 16-11, but it was once again all Maroons as the visitors went on a 8-4 run to take the third set and lead 2-1.
  • The fourth set was much like the first. With the score tied at 22-22, the Panthers recorded a service ace, but it was the last point they would score. Roanoke took advantage of two Ferrum errors and a kill by Rylee Mayer to close out the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Kirchner had the match-high 17 kills in the win for the Maroons. Mayer also reached double-digit kills with 11.
  • Kirchner did not commit any attack errors on the evening and finished the match with a .708
  • Kylee Draper recorded another double-double with 29 assists and 12 digs on the evening.
  • For the match, Roanoke had a .212 attack percentage, including a .636 percentage in the third set (15 kills, 1 error).
