The Basics
Event: 2021 NCAA Division 3 South XC Regional
Location: Spartanburg, S.C.
The Lead: The NCAA DIII South Regional was held on Saturday morning over the 6K (women) and 8K (men) courses in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Roanoke women finished 18th in the field of 24 while the RC men placed 11th amongst the 23 competing teams.
Women's Highlights:
- Emory University paced the women's field with 31 points with Lynchburg (54) runner-up and Washington and Lee (116) claiming third. Roanoke College finished the event at 533.
- Lauren Brown was the top finishing Maroon in a time of 25:21.3 to finish in 63rd out of 163 total runners.
- Hannah Koepfinger posted a time of 25:59.8 while Roanoke's third finisher was Ashley Brown in a final time of 28:07.0.
Men's Highlights:
- The men's race was won by Emory with a final score of 47, Lynchburg was again the runner-up with 80, and the third-place finish went to Christopher Newport (110).
- Peter Smith finished 34th overall out of 154 to pace the RC men at 26:50.8.
- Three spots later would be the finish of Chamberlain Zulauf (26:55.0) with Cooper Neeble (27:06.2) making it a trio of Maroons in the top 50.
