The Lead: Steven Loney and Kenny Mackovic combined to surrender just three hits as No.9 Roanoke picked up a 10-1 ODAC win at Lynchburg on Thursday.

How it Happened

  • Loney went the first five innings and gave up just two hits and one run while striking out five as he improved his record to 1-0 on the season. Mackovic went the final four innings and gave up one hit and struck out a pair to pick up the save.
  • With the game scoreless in the RC third inning, Eli Sumpter singled home Dean Hermanson who had reached on a one-out error by LC to make it 1-0.
  • The Maroons then loaded the bases and Jack Howard singled to score Sumpter and Gavin Kandrick to make it a 3-0 game. RC would load the bases again later in the inning before Will Merriken scored on a wild pitch giving RC a 4-0 lead.
  • Sean Guida opened the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run to make it 5-0. Sumpter followed with a single, moved to second on a Merriken single and would score on a throwing error by LC to make it 6-0.
  • LC got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but RC would respond in the top of the sixth when Kandrick was hit by a pitch with two outs and then scored on a Guida double to put RC in front 7-1.
  • Hermanson drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh inning to push the Roanoke lead to 8-1 then a Will Salva RBI single and a Hermanson sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth made it 10-1.
