RC Baseball Splits ODAC Doubleheader at Bridgewater

Game 1 
The Basics
Score: Roanoke 4, Bridgewater 3
Records: Roanoke 11-11 / 8-1 ODAC | Bridgewater 7-16 / 2-7 ODAC
Location: Bridgewater, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take game one 4-3.

How it Happened:

  • Scott Ellis got the scoring going for the Maroons as he singled home Cale Agee with two outs in the second inning to give RC a 1-0 lead.
  • Bridgewater took the lead in the fourth inning when Cameron Stanley delivered a three-run home run.
  • The score stayed 3-1 until the top of the ninth when Tyler De Meo singled to open the inning and scored when Ellis followed with a triple. Will Smith then singled to plate Ellis and make it 3-3.
  • Later in the inning, Smith moved to second on a groundout by Cody Shell and would come home with the eventual game-winning run on a Gavin Kandrick single.
  • Chris Dudley allowed two hits in two innings of relief to improve his record to 2-0, while Kevin Ledford pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth inning to pick up his fourth save of the year. Smith and De Meo each had three hits for RC in the win.
  • Tucker Garrison (0-2) was charged with all three runs in the Roanoke ninth and was saddled with the loss. Brett Jones had two hits for BC.

Game 2

Score: Bridgewater 7, Roanoke 6 (14 innings)
Records: Roanoke 11-12 / 8-2 ODAC | Bridgewater 8-16 / 3-7 ODAC
Location: Bridgewater, Va.

The Lead: Bridgewater earned a 7-6 win in 14 innings over Roanoke and earn a split of the doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • With Bridgewater leading 1-0 in the third inning, Agee led off with a solo home run to tie the game.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Jack Howard singled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a De Meo triple.
  • De Meo would steal home later in the inning to make it 3-1. RC would get RBI singles from Sam Watson and Smith with two outs to extend the lead to 5-1.
  • Bridgewater got a leadoff home run from Jacob Grabeel and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Talley in the fifth inning to make it a 5-3 game.
  • The score stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when BC loaded the bases with no outs. Ledford was able to get back-to-back strikeouts but Talley would single to score a pair and tie the game.
  • In the Roanoke 12th inning, Shell led off with a walk, moved to second on a bunt and scored on an RBI single by Howard to put RC on top 6-5.
  • RC had two outs in the bottom of the 12th but BC got an RBI single from JT Creed to score Talley and tie the game.
  • Talley singled to lead off the 14th, moved to second a bunt and scored on a Creed single to end the game.
  • Watson, De Meo and Howard each had two hits for RC. Cam Eck (0-3) tossed 3.1 innings of relief and struck out three.
  • Talley finished with three hits and three RBI for BC. George Killian got the final out of the 14th to get credited with the win.
