Seven Maroons Honored by the NFHCA for Academic Success

Salem, Va. – Seven Roanoke College Field Hockey student-athletes have been honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for their academics performance.

Emma Clark, Megan Diehl, Lauren Heffron, Marion Lovett, Meghan Mercer, Kaylin Stenson and Kestrel Thorne-Kaunelis were all named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad which encompasses student-athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

This is the second time for Clark on the national academic squad. She was a First-Team All-ODAC selection at goalkeeper following the season as well and is a biology major and minoring in Spanish. Heffron was a third-team all-league choice and is majoring in business with a minor in math.

Stenson joined Clark on the First-Team All-ODAC squad and was also honored by the NFHCA as an all-region performer on the field. Stenson is a criminal justice major and this is her third time being honored by the NFHCA for her academics.

Diehl is a team captain and is majoring in biology with a minor in Spanish and makes the academic squad for the second straight season. Thorne-Kaunelis is a psychology major with concentrations in neuroscience and peace and justice studies. Lovett is pursuing a double major in psychology and criminal justice and a minor in sociology, while Mercer is an elementary education major.

These student-athletes were part of an RC team that earned 14 wins this past season.
