The Lead: C.J. Miles lead Roanoke to 70-55 win over Bluffton in the season-opener Friday night in game one of the Dick Leftwich Tournament in Salem, Va. With the win, Roanoke will face N.C. Wesleyan in the championship Saturday at 3 p.m.
How it Happened
- Miles scored 20 points while Joey Miller and Josh Freund tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively. Freund grabbed 10 rebounds on the night to record the double-double.
- Andrew Hunter led the way for Bluffton tallying 12 points followed by Kevin Christie with nine.
- Back-to-back three-pointers from Miller and Joe Mikalauskas gave Roanoke a 23-18 lead with seven minutes left in the first.
- Miles sunk a jump shot at the buzzer to send RC into the locker room with a 39-27 lead at the half.
- A lay-up from Miller sparked a 9-0 run at the start of the second half capped by a bucket from Miles to make it 48-27 with 17 minutes left in the contest.
- The Maroons shot 42.6%, going 26-for-61 from the field while the Beavers went 21-53 for 39.6%.
- Roanoke tallied 12 steals on the night, headed by Eli Sumpter with three as Bluffton had 23 turnovers.
Up Next: Roanoke will face N.C. Wesleyan in the championship slated for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Cregger Center.
