The Lead: Methodist slipped by Roanoke 64-60 in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke's C.J. Miles scored a team-high 19 points in the loss. Josh Freund had 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Jorden Davis and Caleb Jordan had 10 and eight points, respectively off the bench for the Maroons.
  • Davion Ayabarreno had a game-high 25 points to lead the Monarchs to the win. Bryan Rouse had 16 points and Jackson Whitley had 10 points for MU. Whitley also finished with 19 rebounds and six blocks on the afternoon.
  • The Maroons fell behind 12-4 but used a 13-3 run to take a 17-15 lead following a pair of Joey Miller free-throws with 8:37 to play in the first-half.
  • The score was tied at 26 with 2:42 to play and the Maroons would score eight of the final 10 points to take a 34-28 lead into the intermission.
  • The Maroons held the lead at the outset of the second-half and two free-throws from Miles gave RC a 44-40 advantage with 9:36 to play.
  • Methodist used a 13-0 run over the course of the next four minutes to pull ahead 53-44 with 5:41 to go in the game.
  • With the score 58-46, Roanoke rallied and put together a 12-3 run, cutting the MU lead to 61-58 with 41 seconds to play.
  • After two missed free-throws by Methodist, RC had a chance to tie the game but Davis' three-point attempt was no good and MU would seal the game with three free-throws down the stretch.
