Golf Takes Third in Virginia Intercollegiate Championship
Suffolk - Roanoke finished third in its fourth match of the season at the Virginia State Intercollegiate Tournament over the weekend. The tournament was held at the Nansemond River Golf Club, which is a par-72 course. The Maroons posted a two-day score of 596, two strokes behind Averett Unviersity in second. Bridgewater College won the match with a team score of 592.

In the two-round tournament, only seven sub-par rounds were turned in during that span. Tournament winner Scott Wakely (Bridgewater), finished the weekend shooting 141 (-3).

The Maroons were in fourth place after day 1 with a score of 305. But, they turned around on day two dropped 14 strokes to shoot a 291, to take third place by eight strokes. Behind Roanoke, Shenandoah and Washington and Lee took fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Brandon Ketron (Abingdon, VA, Abingdon) and Adam Skaff (Charleston, WV, Charleston Catholic) both led the maroons shooting 146 (+2) over the course of two days to finish tied for third. Patrick Guzi finished just four strokes behind the pair, posting a 150 (+6) to finish tied for 15th.

The men will travel to Greensboro, NC to compete in the Tom and Bettie O'Brient Memorial on Oct. 23. It will be held at the Cardinal Golf Club.
