Golf Coaches Letter
The Roanoke College golf program has seen success in the first half of the season thus far.  While we took 10th in the ODAC Championships in the spring of 2013, we had a couple of top-five finishes to start the 2013-14 golf season.

About the Fall Season
We opened the year with a fourth-place finish at the Tom Kinder Memorial, out of 18 teams at the event.  Alex Taylor took third place in the event, shooting a two-over, 146.  Andrew Butts shot 149 in the match for a top-10 finish.  Jack Prater shot 154 (+10), while Koulton Cooper and William Brown finished tied for 54th.

At the Hampden-Sydney Invitational, we took fourth-place again, besting more than half the field in Farmville, VA.  Butts brought us an 11th place finish, shooting nine-over for the day.  Prater also finished with a top-20 finish, shooting 159.   John Willard and Taylor each finished with top-25 marks.

We placed sixth in the Virginia State Intercollegiate on October 14th.   Two of our players finished in the top-20, with Taylor tying for ninth place (+1), while Butts took 18th (+4).  Brown finished in 26th, shooting a single round day of 78.  In our final match of the fall, we placed 13th at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial.  Taylor led us with an 11th place finish.

About our Spring Schedule
We get our spring season underway on February 28th as we compete in the Callaway Gardens Invitational.  We will travel down to Pine Mountain, just outside of Atlanta, to play at the Mountain View Course.  We will continue our competition in Georgia on March 13th as we play at the Pine Lakes Golf Club in Jekyll Island just outside of Savannah.

On March 27-30, we will be down at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate at the USMC Golf Club.  The following week, we will host the Roanoke Invitational at the Roanoke Country Club just before "Alumni Weekend."  We hope people will get to come out and see us in action!  At the end of the month, we will travel down to North Carolina and play at the Rock Barn Golf Club in the ODAC Championships.

Alumni Weekend – Maroon Club Events
For our alumni who are Maroon Club members, be on the lookout for the Maroon Club newsletter which will be coming out in early March.  It will highlight the winter season along with each of our nine spring sports and talk about the events coming up, including the Maroon Club golf outing April 11 at Roanoke Country Club.  There will be a special rate for Maroon Club members who participate.  For more information about the golf outing, please click HERE

On Friday evening, the Maroon Club will host the Hall of Fame reception in the Wortmann Ballroom in the Colket Center.  The event will be from 7-8:30 PM.  On Saturday afternoon, the Maroon Club reception will be held during the men's lacrosse game from 2-5 PM.

Calling all Golf Alumni!
We are committed to providing these young men a college golfing experience that builds character, teaches dedication, and helps prepare each student-athlete to achieve their potential as future leaders.  I know you join me in understanding the important lessons learned through athletics.

Your generosity and support helps to teach the importance of giving and setting an example that will help inspire our players today and in the future.  Your annual contribution will help alleviate the rising cost of lodging, entry fees, team travel, team apparel, golf balls and equipment.

I am happy to report that Roanoke golf is performing at a high level, in a tough competitive environment.  In 2012, the men placed second in the ODAC Championships for the first time since 1998! The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) is one of the top conferences in NCAA Division III.

Winning golf tournaments is important, but at Roanoke College the "student" comes first in "student-athlete."  We take pride in our academic accomplishments along with our golfing successes.  With your support, backed by our intensity and commitment, we can do both!

If you are interested in joining, please contact Brad Moore at (540) 375-2344 or by email at moore@roanoke.edu.  If you would like to pay online to become a member, click HERE.  For more information about the Maroon Club, please visit our website by clicking HERE.  Your gift can go to support the golf program if desired!

Have a great spring and look forward to seeing everyone "Alumni Weekend."
