The Lead: No. 14 Denison edged No. 19 Roanoke 14-13 in double overtime men's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon in Salem.

How it Happened

  • Peter Lindley led Roanoke with six goals and added one assist for the Maroons. Jason Sarro and Steven Jackson each had two goals, while Kevin Jackson and Sarro both had a pair of assists.
  • Owen Armstrong had three goals for Denison. Jake Waxter, Will Donohue and Wills Hutras each scored twice for the Big Red.
  • Denison outshot Roanoke 51-49. RC held a 43-31 edge in groundballs. Roanoke won 20-of-29 face-offs, led by Chad Fisher who was 17-of-21 on the day and grabbed a team-high eight groundballs.
  • The game was scoreless until the 5:34 mark of the first quarter when DU's Spencer Butler scored to make it 1-0. RC responded when Lindley set up Steven Jackson under a minute later to tie the game.
  • Denison had a slim 3-2 lead after the first quarter, before Roanoke tied it up with 10:15 remaining in the half when Kevin Jackson set up Sarro.
  • Armstrong scored with just under nine minutes to go in the half and sparked a four goal run for Denison as the Big Red went up 7-3.
  • Steven Jackson scored with 55 seconds left in the half to send the teams to the locker room with the score 7-4.
  • Denison opened the second half with a pair of goals to start the second half to push ahead 9-4.
  • Lindley scored with 10:50 to go and sparked a 5-1 run for the Maroons to close the third quarter, capped by an IV Stucker strike with 3:14 to go.
  • Armstrong opened the fourth quarter scoring at the 11:56 mark to make it 11-9 before Lindley notched back-to-back goals, tying the game at 11-11 with 5:56 to play.
  • Kevin Jackson gave RC its first lead of the game with 5:08 to play then Lindley scored 10 seconds later to put RC out in front 13-11.
  • Denison cut the lead to 13-12 and then tied the game with just 13 seconds to go in the contest.
  • After no one scored in the first overtime, a Denison pass was knocked down in front of the Roanoke cage. In an attempt to gain possession, RC inadvertently knocked the ball towards the cage and the ball trickled over the goal line, giving Denison the win.
