Men's Lacrosse Opens 2019 on Feb. 22

2019 Men's Lacrosse Schedule

SALEM, Va. – Roanoke Men's Lacrosse opens the 2019 season on Friday, Feb. 22 against Sewanee at 4 p.m. in Salem.

Coach Pilat and the Maroons will take on a schedule with 17 regular season games, featuring nine home games, seven on the road and one neutral site match-up.

After its home-opener Roanoke will face four straight opponents who made it to the 2018 NCAA Championships starting with Christopher Newport, on Feb. 27 in Newport News, Va., who the Maroons fell to in the NCAA Tournament last season.

RC will then welcome Denison to Salem on the second of March before traveling to Baltimore, Md., to face Stevens in a neutral site match-up on March 6 before Dickinson will make the trip to Kerr Stadium on March 10.

Conference opponents Washington and Lee and Lynchburg also made the 2018 tournament and Roanoke will battle the Generals at home on March 30 and will travel to Lynchburg on April 5 for a Friday night tilt.

Roanoke was tabbed No. 3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Poll with 86 points and one first place vote. Washington and Lee took the top spot with 96 points and seven first place votes followed by the University of Lynchburg with 91 points and three first place votes.

In the preseason polls, Roanoke earned a No. 14 ranking by the Nike/US Lacrosse Poll and a No. 15 spot in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Poll.

Last season, the Maroons finished with a 14-6 overall and 7-2 conference record. Roanoke fell to Lynchburg in the ODAC Championship game before receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they hosted CNU in the second round.

Roanoke returns the 2018 National Goalie of the Year and First Team All-American Ian Davies and Honorable Mention All-American Jason Sarro. Also returning for the Maroons is All-ODAC selections Tim Aldinger and Brendan Devane.

Men's Lacrosse is teaming up with other programs across the country to raise money for pediatric cancer treatment and research. Lacrosse vs. Cancer goal is to raise 150,000 dollars to fight pediatric cancer.

The Maroons have set a 5,000 dollar goal and has designated their March 17 game with Virginia Wesleyan as Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day.
