The Lead: A six goal run spanning parts of three quarters propelled the Roanoke College Men's Lacrosse team to a 14-6 win over Sewanee.
How it Happened
- With Sewanee leading 1-0, Roanoke got back-to-back goals from Ethan Caldwell and Jason Sarro to go up 2-1 with 5:37 left in the first quarter.
- With the score tied at 2-2, Caldwell and Jack Callis struck to move the Maroons back in front 4-2 with 1:36 to go in the first quarter before Daniel Burnum scored with seven seconds left to make it a 4-3 game.
- Sarro scored 21 seconds into the second quarter and Carson Peck struck to put the Maroons up 6-3 at the 11:23 mark.
- The teams exchanged goals the remainder of the quarter with a Sarro score with 4:13 left in the half sending the teams to the locker room with RC leading 8-5.
- A Caldwell goal just over two minutes into the third quarter made it 9-5 and the Maroons would add three more goals in the quarter, taking a 12-5 advantage on a George Gilbert goal with six minutes to play.
- Anthony Beccaria capped the decisive run with a goal 57 seconds into the final quarter that made it 13-5.
- Roanoke outshot Sewanee 56-19. Sewanee led in groundballs 36-27.
- Sarro led RC with five goals and two assists for seven points. Caldwell had three goals and Gilbert had a pair. Matt Federau made seven saves for the Maroons in net.
- Durnum finished with two goals and Hampton Brannon made 22 saves for Tigers.
