Douglass nets two goals in 3-1 victory over Marlins

Virginia Beach, Va. --- Shaman Douglass had his second multi-goal match of the season in a 3-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan in the Maroons ODAC-opener this evening. The men improved to 4-1-1 on the season with a 1-0 mark in the ODAC.
Michael Rouhana set the tone early as he scored with just under two minutes into the match off an assist from Taylor Johnston to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead.
Then Douglass got into the act as Kayvon Sarmadi found him off a breakaway to score his first goal of the evening to give the Maroons a 2-0 advantage with 22 minutes remaining in the second half for the eventual game-winner. Seven minutes later, he scored off a penalty kick to propel the Maroons to a 3-0 lead.
The Marlins got on the board with just over three minutes remaining as Mark Stringer found the back of the net to give the final result.
The Marlins outshot the Roanoke, 12-10 as the Maroons won, 7-2 on corner kicks. Adam Thompson finished the night with seven saves. Ryan Zmuda had three saves for VWC.
The men will return home on Tuesday, Sept. 20 as they battle Christopher Newport in non-conference action. The men are 3-3 all-time against the Captains. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. following the women's match.
