Harrisonburg, Va. --- The men's soccer team scored in the 15th minute and preserved a 1-0 win over Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Va. this afternoon. With the win the Maroons improved to 8-3-1 overall and 4-1 in the ODAC. The Royals dropped to 9-5, 2-5 in ODAC play.
Senior Michael Rouhana spotted Jordan Troyer up field as the freshman scored his second goal of the season in the 16th minute. It was Rouhana's third assist and Troyer's second game-winner of the season.
The defense was superb again as they held their opponent scoreless for the seventh time this season. Senior goalkeeper Adam Thompson earned his eighth win of the season, stopping two shots for his sixth shutout effort of the season. He is now fifth all-time in career shutouts with nine, tying former greats Scott Schirmer '87 and John Browning '85.
Roanoke held a slim advantage on shots (10-9) and corner kicks (4-3) in the contest. Troyer had two of the four shots on goal for the Maroons. Rouhana had one shot on goal and moved into seventh all-time at Roanoke in that category with 38.
The Maroons are now 35-11-3 in the series against the Royals, including the last three meetings. The Maroons have won by a score of 1-0 for the fourth time this season. The defense has played flawlessly as they have put up three-straight shutouts, including four out of their last five games.
The men will travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on Randolph College in ODAC action on Oct. 15. It will be the first meeting between the two teams as game time is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
