Roanoke College Weekly Wrap

Men's Soccer - 8-3-1, 4-1 ODAC
The Men's Soccer team is 8-3-1 this fall. They went 2-0 this past week with a 3-0 win over Emory & Henry and a 1-0 decision at Eastern Mennonite this past Saturday. The three-game win streak started with a 1-0 win over then #18 Salisbury for the first time since 1997.
The Maroons are led by their upperclassmen leadership. Michael Rouhana is eighth in the ODAC in shots (33) and shots per game. He is also among the all-time greats at Roanoke in career shot on goal (37) and game-winners with five. Senior Shaman Douglass is ninth in the ODAC in points (15), points per game, 10th in goals (5), and fifth in assists with five. He is ranked among the top-300 nationally in points and assists per game.
Senior captain Michael Walter is second in the conference with three game-winning goals. Senior goalkeeper Adam Thompson is having a sensational senior campaign between the posts. He currently leads the ODAC and ranked 18th in the NCAA Div. III in goals against average (0.50). He is third in the conference and ranked among the top-75 in save percentage (.818). His ODAC-leading six shutouts along with his GAA and save percentage are among the top-10 single-season mark at Roanoke.
The men are currently ranked seventh in the NSCAA South Region Poll and have been ranked in the South Region all season long and moved up in the polls one spot from last week. The Maroons have been as high as fifth in the poll this season and have a 6-1-1 record against teams ranked in regional polls. In addition, Roanoke is 2-1-1 against teams that were ranked in the top-30 this season.
The Maroons will travel to Randolph College today and host Hampden-Sydney this Saturday.
Women's Soccer - 5-6-1, 3-2-1 ODAC
The Women's Soccer team is 5-6-2, 3-2-1 in the ODAC. The Maroons tied #2 Lynchburg, 1-1 at home last week in what was their biggest game of the season. They lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Mary Washington in the final 30-seconds of the match last weekend.
Sophomore Lindsey Kooiman is currently ranked in the conference in goals against average (5th) and saves (6th) with three shutouts on the year. Senior Meredith Grunewald continues to be a force for the Maroon's and currently is in the top-10 in six different categories in the ODAC. In addition to holding the school's all-time assists record, she is ranked in points (7th), goals (9th), game-winners (7th), shots on goal (5th) at Roanoke. She is leading the team in goals (8), assists (5) and points (21).
Kristen McCoy is etching her way in the Roanoke women's soccer records in career points (101), goals (45), shots (234), shots on goal (125) and game-winners with 11. She leads the Maroons in shots (38), shots on goal (19) and game-winners with two.
The Maroons will play at home against Sweet Briar today and Eastern Mennonite this Saturday.
Volleyball - 18-3, 4-3 ODAC
Roanoke College Volleyball has been on a tear this season with record-breaking 18-3 start. They defeated tournament-host Catholic in four sets and 20-game winner Stevenson in three sets to finish 4-0 last week. They defeated Emory & Henry in four sets in a pivotal ODAC match to move into fourth-place in the latest ODAC Standings.
This record-setting season the Maroons have seen players move into several school-record categories. Senior Marcy Connor is ranked seventh in career kills (614), eighth in attacks (1638), sixth in total blocks (217), fifth in block assists (116) and tied for seventh in block solos with 101. Junior Caitlyn Long recently broke the school-record in career digs (1185) and is among the top-15 all-time in the ODAC. She is one service ace shy of becoming the seventh player at Roanoke with 100 career aces. Also a backup setter throughout her career, Long is just outside the top-10 in career assists (437). Fellow Junior Erin Burnop is ranked sixth in career attacks (1796) and ninth in career kills with 601.
Several players are ranked among the ODAC as well. Conner is ranked sixth in the ODAC in hitting percentage (.312) while Long is ranked in assists (10th) and digs (7th). The hitting tandem of newcomers Kelsey Largen and Maggie Wagner are fifth and sixth, respectively in kills. Freshman setter Kate Feldman is third in assists (513).
Head Coach Blair Trail currently has 184 wins over her 10-year career, which is the more than any other Roanoke coach and second among active ODAC Coaches. She has had three 20-win seasons and is looking forward to her fourth by season's end. The 10-game win streak and the 18-3 start are both school-records.
The women begin a four-game home stand with Sweet Briar tonight and then Lynchburg on Friday. They will host Greensboro on Saturday and celebrate senior night on Monday, Oct. 20 against Southern Virginia.
Field Hockey - 1-11
The Maroons had two tough defeats this week against Washington & Lee, 3-2 on Oct. 9th and Wesley, 3-0 on Oct. 11th. Mariah Vietri and Jordan McIninch scored a goal each in last week's loss to the Generals.
The Maroons got their only win in a big way in an 8-0 victory over Shenandoah. The eight second-half goals were the most since the 2003 season and the eight goals total were the most since 2004. Emily Hutson and Jessica Perkins each had their first multi-goal games of their careers in the win.
Cristina Schicilone is a bright spot for the Maroons between the pipes at goalie this season. Under former record-setting goalie Lindsay Paz's tutelage, she has been ranked most of the season in saves and saves percentage not only in the ODAC, but on the national scale as well. She is ranked 38th in saves per game and her effort has boasted the women to 40th in the latest NCAA Div. III rankings.
The Maroons will travel to Bridgewater this Friday and will host Mary Washington on Oct. 19.
Cross Country
The women had five runners finish in the top 20 in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. They were led by Jennifer Doughman (20:15). Once again Erin Gollery finished second for the Maroon's team and was in 12th place in the meet with a time of (20:23). The other three runners in the top 20 were Liz Mumaw (20:24), Maggie Moore (20:28), and Emily Gallagher (20:59).
Ian Robinson, the ODAC Runner of the Week last week finished as the highest NCAA Div. III runner in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational with a time of 26:50. Alex Knutsen finished a mere second behind him with a time of 26:51. Other notable finishes this week were Dana Mueller (27:29) and Greg Hanlon (28:06).
The Maroons next meet will be the Appalachian State Invitational on Oct. 17th.
