Roanoke Records Fourth-Straight Shutout in 5-0 Win over Eastern Mennonite
HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Roanoke scored early and pulled away quickly in a 5-0 win over Eastern Mennonite in its ODAC-opener Tuesday evening. The Maroons improved to 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC while the Royals dropped to 1-3, 0-1 in the conference.

With the win, head coach Scott Allison won his 275th career match at Roanoke, tying him with Washington & Lee's Rolf Piranian as the winningest coach in ODAC men's soccer history. The Roanoke defense also produced its fourth-straight shutout effort of the young season.

Jason Ryan (Radford, VA, Radford)
led the way for the Maroons, with two assists and a goal on four shots, three on goal. Carl Leist (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg), Jake Mercer (Raleigh, NC, St. David's ), Cameron Lee (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring), and Peyton Lambert (Chesapeake, VA, Western Branch) tallied the other four scores in the contest. The Maroons were solid offensively, outshooting the opposition, 19-7, including a 13-3 first half advantage.

The Maroons scored early, with Leist scoring a breakaway goal just 11:55 in. With nine minutes left in the half, Roanoke scored again as Mercer scored off an assist from AJ Tierce (Vorrhees, NJ, Eastern Regional) to take the 2-0 halftime advantage.

In the second half, the floodgates opened as Ryan had a part in all three second-half goals, producing the final margin. He assisted the first goal off a corner kick to Lee to give the Maroons a three-goal lead. Ryan's goal came in the 58th minute, unassisted off a set piece. Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River) and Ryan each had a part in Lambert's score midway through the second half, which gave the final result.

Ryan Russell (Danville, VA, GW Danville)
(3-0) earned his third shutout match of the year in goal for the Maroons, collecting one save in 81 minutes of play. Casey Shotts (Virginia Beach, VA, Princess Anne) also notched a save in nine minutes of action.

Ryan Baker picked up six saves in goal for EMU in 68 minutes of action. Mitchell Leap and Barkot Akalu had the only shots on goal for the Royals.

The Maroons will take on both Wesley and Stockton in the Stockton Seashore Classic in New Jersey this weekend, Sept. 10-11.
