Men's Soccer Splits Weekend, Defeats W&L 2-1 on Saturday
GREENSBORO, NC - The Roanoke men's soccer team defeated Washington and Lee, 2-1 and fell to Greensboro, 2-0 over the weekend. The Maroons record now stands at 4-2-1, 1-0-1 in the ODAC after picking up their first conference win on Saturday.

Roanoke defeated Washington and Lee, 2-1 on Saturday to start the weekend. The Generals (1-3-1) opened up the scoring in the 29th minute as Max Quellhorst netted the first goal of the game off a pass from Zach Clarke. The Maroons tied the game in the 43rd minute, as a goal deflected off a General and was scored an own goal.

The game remained tied until the 86th minute when Brian White (Virginia Beach, VA, First Colonial) scored the game winning goal from a rebound off the keeper.

Roanoke was outshot by the Generals 13-10, but led in corner kicks 7-1. Avery Makel (Nellysford, VA, Nelson County) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Maroons, seeing five shots on goal and saving four.

On Sunday, Roanoke fell to Greensboro 2-0. The Pride (1-3-2) got on the board early as Patrick Hays found the back of the net in the 13th minute to take the 1-0 lead. This was Hays' third goal of the season.

Just 10 minutes later, The Pride extended their lead as Colby Johnson, who assisted on the first score, found a goal of his own in the 23rd minute. The Maroons attacked for the remainder of the game but were unable to find the back of the net.

Roanoke outshot Greensboro 11-4 and led in corner kicks 7-2. Chris Conover (Dagsboro, DE, Indian River) led the team in shots with five, while Jordan Troyer (Columbia, SC, The Hammond School) followed with two.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday Sept. 21, as they travel to Emory, VA to face Emory & Henry in ODAC action. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
