Men's Soccer Falls in Non-Conference Action, 3-1
SALEM - The Roanoke men's soccer team fell in non-conference action to North Carolina Wesleyan College, 3-1 on Tuesday night. The Maroons move to 8-3-1, 4-0-1 ODAC overall while the Battling Bishops move to 4-3-4, 1-0 USA South.

The Battling Bishops caught the Maroons off guard early in the contest as Ritchie Duffie broke away from the Ronaoke defense to score in the first 1:31. The Bishops held the Maroons scoreless until the 33rd minute when Peyton Lambert (Chesapeake, VA, Western Branch) set up Christopher Fisher (Morehead City, NC, West Carteret High School) for a header goal. Fisher headed the ball off the ground which took an immediate right turn in front of the Bishop's keeper, and found the back of the net.

North Carolina Wesleyan planted one in the back of the net as Owen White dribbled around the front of the box, and squared a shot off to the right side of the goal giving the Battling Bishops a 2-1 lead. The final goal of the game from Wesleyan's Omar Kanten who found the back of the net with two minutes left.

The Maroons outshot the Battling Bishops 10-8 and led in corners 7-1. This match marks the first regular season home loss for the Roanoke men's soccer team in nearly two years, when the Maroons fell to Eastern Mennonite on Oct. 24, 2009. With this loss, Roanoke is now 3-6-1 all-time against North Carolina Wesleyan.

The Maroons will return to action on Oct. 8, as they travel to Fayetville, N.C. to fave Methodist University in their final non-conference match-up of the regular season. The game is scheduled to begin 1:00 p.m.
