SALEM – The Roanoke College men's soccer team announces the newest assistant coach to join the staff, Cory Speed. 
 
Speed comes to Roanoke College from St. Edward's University where he trained goalkeepers and field players, as well as helping with strength and fitness workouts.  During his time at St. Edward's, Speed coached two NCAA Academic All-Americans, one NCAA All-American and six South Central All-Region Players.  He also helped lead the Hilltoppers to a 12-3-3 record in 2012, along with a #24 ranking in the final regular season NSCAA Poll.  Speed is a 2008 graduate of Sterling College, where he was an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, the Regional Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007, and First Team All-Region.
 
"I am extremely excited to add Cory to the staff," said Head Coach Ryan Pflugrad.  "The Roanoke College players and program will undoubtedly benefit from his experiences both as an All American colligate player, as well as in his work coaching with such a strong program at St. Edward's.  Cory's experience, professionalism, and knowledge make him an ideal coach to help continue the success of the Roanoke College program."
 
Speed joins Roanoke's coaching staff along with new Head Coach Ryan Pflugrad '02 and Assistant Coach Ryan Russell '13.  Pflugrad takes the helm of the Maroons after Athletic Director Scott Allison's 27-year tenure with the team.  The Maroons look to build off of their outstanding 2012 season, where they reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in school history, and won the ODAC Championship for the ninth time.  The men's soccer team finished with a record of 13-5-1, marking Roanoke's sixth consecutive 10-win season.
