Maroons Win ODAC Regular Season Title in Double Overtime Thriller, 2-1 over Emory & Henry
SALEM - With nine seconds to play in double overtime, senior AJ Tierce sank a game-winning penalty kick; his second of the night, to give Roanoke a 2-1 win over Emory & Henry on Tuesday. With the win, the Maroons clench their second consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season title.

The Maroons earned the #1 seed in the ODAC tournament, and will find out after Wednesday's contest between Bridgewater and Shenandoah which teams will be the #7/#8 seeds. If Bridgewater loses, there will be a three-way tie at the #7/#8 spot between Bridgewater, Eastern Mennonite and Hampden-Sydney. Head Coach Scott Allison, who announced Monday his retirement from coaching at the conclusion of this season, has led Roanoke (10-4-1, 8-2-1) to a school record sixth consecutive 10-win season. Allison has previously led the team to five straight 10-win seasons on two occasions (1990-94; 2000-04).

Tierce's two goals give him six total goals in 2012, a team-high. He netted the first penalty kick at 13:20, to put the Maroons up 1-0. Emory & Henry's Heath Culbreth scored the equalizer with one-tenth of a second left in the first half, after having to quickly set up a corner kick, to lock the game at 1-1 for the next 68 minutes. At 109:51, the Maroons were awarded another penalty kick, which Tierce put away in the middle of the net to clench the victory.

Roanoke outshot Emory & Henry 26-4, with Patrick Bain leading the team with six shots. Tierce finished the game with five shots and Mark Strelow had four. The Wasps' Justin Spencer played the complete game in net, tallying 13 saves over the course of the game.

The Maroons have earned the right to host the first round of the ODAC Tournament at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on Saturday, October 27th. The time of the game is still to be determined, so keep checking http://maroons.roanoke.edu or http://odaconline.com as that information becomes available.
